Texas Arts & Music Festival Mural

Tra Slaughter | Oct. 13-15, 2016

Art were assigned to paint murals on one of several buildings in downtown Brenham for the Texas Arts & Music Festival.  Texan artist, Tra Slaughter painted the mural on the Back Lot Gallery's wall.

His mural is of Sam Houston, one of the Texas forefathers. Sam Houston was baptized nearby in Independence, TX and his wife lived until her death in Independence as well.  Sam Houston lived with an indian tribe for several years as a young boy. His Indian name was Black Raven, hence the large black Raven to the left if his head and the war paint on his face. The other bird is the Texas state bird, mockingbird.
